Carpets and beds retailer delivers another strong year

Carpets and beds retailer United Carpets & Beds has reported a growth in sales as turnover edged closer towards £30m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2022, total sales rose 9.6% £26.1m from £23.9m in 2021. Pre-tax profit resulted at £1.4m, slightly down from £1.8m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, United Carpets & Beds, which operates through 57 stores – the majority of which are franchised – across the UK, said its top line growth illustrates the successful sales and marketing incentives undertaken in the year.

The business added that profit was down due to the withdrawal of Covid government support schemes. The group ended the year with net assets valuing £3.9m, up from £3.1m in 2021, while gross profit margin increased to 65.5% from 64.9%.

At the time of the published report, United Carpets added that like-for-like sales for the current year are up 1%. “This continues to demonstrate the strength of our business model, products, prices, supply chain and of course our franchisees,” the company said.

United Carpet and Beds recently announced the launch of its new-look logo and refreshed route to market. The rebrand, which sees the business move away from its historic red, white and yellow colour theme, focusses on the local connections that the many family and local owned stores have, as well as being paired with the expertise and reputation that comes with a bigger brand.
