Chinese table lamp rejected at border over fire risk

A Chinese table lamp has been rejected at the UK border after presenting a high risk of fire.

The product, which originates from China and sold via Amazon under the brand HHMTAKA, is described as a decorative table lamp sold with black or white cabling and plugs.

The HHMTAKA Table Lamps present a high risk of fire as it has insufficient cord anchorage.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards stated: “The product presents a high risk of fire because it has insufficient cord anchorage, which in turn causes strain on the terminals of the product when in use.

“This could cause the termination to fail and overheat, causing a fire. Improvements are also required to product marking and labelling. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The import has been rejected at the border.”
