The Conran Shop closes French operations

Contemporary furniture, lighting and home accessories retailer, The Conran Shop, has pulled the plug on its operations in France.

The UK-based business has closed its French operations after 31 years, with both the physical shop, situated on Paris’s Rue du Bac, and online presence ceasing to trade.

The French division saw losses reach €2.5m in 2023, with sales resulting at €13m.

In a statement, the company said that it tried to find alternative solutions to “keep the brand alive”, but due to a “declining and ever-changing retail climate in France, the hard decision was made to close the store”.

The closure does not impact the UK business, which will continue to trade as normal alongside other global markets including Kuwait, South Korea and Japan.

Following the closure, the business added that it will focus on new regions moving forward.
