Sofa business establishes new EU production facility as sales rise

Sofa manufacturer and wholesaler, Scan-Thors (UK) Ltd, has reported a growth in sales while narrowing losses.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2021, total sales rose 11.7% to Ā£16.9m from Ā£12.1m in 2020.

UK sales jumped 37.1% to Ā£13.3m from Ā£9.7m, while overseas sales rose 56.5% to Ā£3.6m from Ā£2.3m.

Gross profit increased from Ā£1.5m to Ā£1.8m, while pre-tax losses resulted at Ā£54,000, narrowing from a loss of Ā£148,000 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said it continued to satisfy demand built up from previous lockdowns, while as part of its ongoing review, Scan-Thor formed new companies in Poland and North Macedonia, where a new, 90% owned production facility has been established.

ā€œThis trading successfully, has helped to negate what were seen as opportunistic price rises from suppliers and gives Scan-Thor surety of supply for the future,ā€ the company added.
