Sales down at department store retailer as estate reduces

Family-owned department store retailer Dawsons has reported a decline in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2023, total sales fell 13.1% to £40.4m from £46.5m in 2022.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £557,000, down from £1.8m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, Dawsons said that it was unable to agree an extension to the lease at its Skipton store, which led to its closure during December 2023.

Dawsons, which also operates a store in Clitheroe, as well as several websites including Garden Furniture World and Just Linen, added that its net assets remained strong at £9.9m.
