New sustainable sofa marketplace launches

A new sofa marketplace dedicated to promoting sustainability and circular economy principles has launched.

Sofalistic is described as the first online marketplace that enables customers to buy and sell sofas all over the country.

“We have two main goals at Sofalistic; To reduce the amount of sofas ending up in Landfill and the incinerator, and to enable customers to get great quality preloved sofas at a fraction of their retail price,” Carly Downer, a spokesperson for the business said.

The company spent months collecting sofas and experiencing the frustrations of trying to sell through generic marketplaces, realising there had to be a better way.

“The tipping point came when we realised just how many perfectly good sofas were going to waste, simply because the logistics of selling or donating them were too daunting,” Carly said.

“Through conversations with retailers and customers it became apparent that people were paying the retailer to take their old sofa away to be disposed of. We started by immersing ourselves in the world of sofas, talking to customers, and learning about their pain points. Scams, no-shows, and the hassle of coordinating pickups were recurring themes.

“Armed with this knowledge we set out to create a solution. Our goal was not just to streamline the buying and selling process but to fundamentally change the way people thought about furniture consumption and disposal.”

Sofalistic has now built a platform that’s addressed these challenges head-on, but is very much at the beginning of its journey.

“Our mission was to inspire a shift in mindset—a move towards a more conscious and responsible approach to furniture consumption. We wanted to show people that there was a better way, one that didn’t involve contributing to the cycle of waste and pollution,” the Carly continued.

“As our marketplace has gained traction, we have been overwhelmed by the positive response from both buyers and sellers. It is clear that there is a demand for sustainable alternatives in the furniture industry, and we are proud to be at the forefront of that movement.”

Looking ahead, Sofalistic plans to keep pushing the boundaries of sustainability and partnering with retailers.
