Interior fit out firm posts record year as sales reach £60m

Interior fit out and joinery firm EE Smith Contracts has reported a surge in sales as turnover surpassed £60m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2022, total sales jumped 30.8% to £61.5m from £47m in 2021.

Gross profit increased from £4.9m to £8.1m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £1.2m, significantly improving from its loss of £22,000 recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said it had rebounded strongly following the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, delivering a ‘fantastic second half’.

Key markets remained ‘strong’ for the business with the outlook expected to achieve another set of record results.

“In uncertain times, cash is king. I am pleased to report that our liquidity has been phenomenal this year. The whole team are focused on working capital, ensuring valid debts are settled on time, in full, both up and down steam,” said Neil Simpson, Finance Director.

“We are far stronger because of the fast-paced challenges of the last two years, and this will stand the business in good stead over the coming year.”

The current year represents the company’s 125th anniversary with Managing Director, Neil Bottrill, commenting: “Our ‘family’ ethos has been maintained despite our continued growth, but also whilst working on some of the UK’s finest commercial, hotel and residential properties. It is a fantastic feat and testament to all who have been involved with the business, past and present.”
