Independent retailer confirms closure after 120 years

Independent furniture retailer Brittains (Furnishers) Ltd has announced plans to closure after 120 years of trading.

Brittains, which is based on St Neots high street, said that the impact of the internet, coupled with rising costs has led to the decision to close.

The company plans to launch an official closing down sale from Saturday 1 July with all stock to be heavily reduced.

Owner Nigel Brittain told local publication, The Hunts Post, that it was with “deep regret and sadness” to close the family business, adding that it has become “very difficult to compete against the internet, rising costs and the current recession”.

The company has also thanked its “valued customers” from over the years and confirmed that all outstanding orders will be completed and honoured.
