Independent furniture retailer grows profit as sales remain strong

Family furniture retailer Fishpools has reported another year of strong sales as profit jumps to almost £800,000.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 29 January 2023, total sales remained consistent at £34m when compared to the prior year.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £779,000, up from £90,000 recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that the pandemic surge in consumer demand for furniture and home products had started to ease at the beginning of the year, with performance returning to pre-pandemic levels of trading.

Furthermore, the impact on consumer confidence across the UK had seen a tightening to trading conditions. However, the business weathered the storm ‘better than most’.

“Whilst trading results will clearly be challenged in 2023 and beyond due to external economic factors, our recent investments in people, product and infrastructure enable us to look forward with great confidence,” the company said.
