Independent carpet retailer registers slight sales fall

Independent carpets and flooring retailer Calverts Carpets has reported a slight decline in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 January 2023, total sales fell 11% to £12.5m from £14m in 2022.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £1.1m, down 16% from £1.3m recorded in the previous year. Gross profit margin increased from 25% to 27%.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The carpet industry in the UK is expected to remain steady for the foreseeable future, despite the effects of the pandemic.

“Against this background, Calverts Carpets aim to deliver revenue and profit growth by focussing on key products whilst driving further efficiencies to control costs. Customers have continued to support the business, even within difficult trading conditions.”
