Fitted furniture supplier looks to expand Darwen facility

Fitted furniture supplier First Choice Fitted Bedrooms has lodged plans to expand with a new extension to its Darwen premises.

Situated at Spring Vale Business Park in Watery Lane, Darwen, the business has submitted a planning application to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council in a bid to expand its site with single-storey industrial unit after outgrowing its current building.

Stated within a supporting document, the company said: “The site is located on the periphery of a secondary employment area occupying an elevated position at the junction of Watery Lane and Spring Vale Road.

“The site encompasses two detached structures: one accommodating three individual industrial units identified as units A, B and C with the other housing a single industrial unit, identified as unit D.

“Unit D is currently under the occupancy of First Choice Fitted Bedrooms Ltd, a bedroom furniture manufacturing company. First Choice Fitted Bedrooms Ltd. who have outgrown their available space and are proposing to occupy the new unit.

“The general form and appearance of the proposed new unit is designed to replicate the existing industrial units. The primary purpose of the new unit is to provide accommodation for the unloading and storage of materials that are used within the manufacturing process for First Choice Bedrooms Ltd.

“The current manufacturing process involves the assembly of bedroom furniture from pre-laminated timber core panels. The new unit will only contain existing equipment and machinery relocated from unit D. There are currently no plans for new machinery is to be brought to site.

“New loading bays will be used early morning to load the built furniture into long wheel based vans prior to their point of installation. The proposals will secure employment in the area for the foreseeable future and will help an established business to grow.”
