Fashion and homewares retailer grows sales and profit

Fashion, homeware and home furnishings retailer The White Company has reported a growth in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 July 2022, total sales rose 1.9% to £276.2m from £271m in 2021. Pre-tax profit resulted at £32.6m, up from £27.7m recorded the previous year.

UK sales were up 3.9% from £246.1m to £255.7m, while EU revenues fell 17.6% to £20.5m from £24.9m.

Stated within its report, the company said: “This was a strong year, in the context of the positive growth seen in the prior year, with the company continuing to grow and improve its customer offer and experience.”

The White Company said that the prior year saw a strong performance in Home and Gifting categories due to the impact of Covid, with online sales booming as stores were closed. As for the recent financial year under review, Home products maintained its position even with a “more balanced mix” of clothing and home product sales.

The return to stores saw this channel deliver growth of 65%, while online sales suffered a decline of 22%.

During the year, the company opened its first small format store in Market Harborough and a concession in Hoopers Department Store in Wilmslow, both of which are “performing well”.
