Danish furniture maker in talks over factory redundancies

Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn has entered into a consultation with factory staff at its facility in Gelsted over planned redundancies.

It is understood around 140 production employees at the business could face being let go due to weaker demand and lesser orders impacting the company.

Knud Erik Hansen, chief executive of Carl Hansen & Søn, said that it looks ‘very brutal’ and has ‘great pity’ for the people it will impact, but due to the situation the company is in, ‘it is necessary’.

The redundancy programme is likely to impact both hourly paid and white-collar workers, with Denmark’s largest trade union, 3F already involved to help affecting staff find alternative work.
