Carpet retail store could close following new development plans

Carpet retailer Carpetright is expected to close its store in Northwich after new planning documents revealed a conversion plan.

According to a planning application to Cheshire West and Chester Council’s, Carpetright, along with other retailer Peacocks, could be set to close with plans to convert the two spaces with two other vacant units at Northwich Retail Park to make one larger retail outlet.

The plans, which were submitted by Prudential Assurance Company Limited, state the larger unit will be used by a ‘national discount retailer’ and will feature a garden centre.

“The proposed development includes the amalgamation of Units 2A, 2B, 2C and 3A of the retail park to allow its occupation by a ‘discount variety’ retailer,” the plans said.

The application has been approved by the respective council’s planning committee.
