Baby pillow recalled over serious suffocation risk

Online marketplace Amazon has issued a product recall on a baby pillow after discovering a potential risk of suffocation.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued the recall for the JINTN Giraffe and Swan Baby Hugging Sleeping Pillow, sold via Amazon, after it presented a serious risk of suffocation, overheating and death.

The product, which originates from China, has failed to meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, with the listing removed by Amazon.

A statement said: “The product has been identified as presenting a serious risk of suffocation, overheating and death when used as directed on the Amazon website.

“Pillows and soft toys are advised not to be placed in the sleep space for babies under the age of one year as their presence increases the risk of overheating and airway obstruction, which have been associated with sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The pillow can also obstruct the user’s airways when the baby is strapped in, causing them to suffocate.

“We recommend owners stop using this product immediately. Contact the distributor you purchased from to request redress.”
