The parent company of furniture retail brand West Elm has reported a decline in first quarter sales.
According to its latest trading update for Q1 ended 28 April 2024, Williams-Sonoma, Inc. reported overall sales for the first quarter of $1.6bn, down 4.9% from $1.7bn on the same period last year. Net earnings increased to $265.6m from $156.5m.
Its West Elm brand saw revenues fall 4.1% to $430m from $452m, while the Williams Sonoma brand registered an uptick of 0.9% to $238m. Pottery Barn sales fell 10.8% to $677m.
Laura Alber, President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are pleased to deliver strong results in the first quarter of 2024, driven by an improving top-line trend and continued strength in our profitability.
“We remain committed to executing on our three key priorities in 2024 – returning to growth, elevating our world-class customer service, and driving margin.”
