Sofas & Stuff experiences sales surge as profit grows 210%

Bespoke furniture business Sofas & Stuff has reported a surge in sales and profit as turnover climbed towards £20m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2021, total sales rose 83% to £19.6m from £10.7m in 2020.

Sales were predominantly UK-based, up 83.9% from £10.6m to £19.5m, while EU sales rose 56% to £78,000 from £50,000. Outside the EU, revenues declined from £17,000 to £2,000.

Gross profit increased from £6.3m to £12.7m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £3.2m, significantly up by 210% from £882,000 recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company, which operates from 20 showrooms across the UK, said that when lockdowns were lifted, it resulted in the ‘biggest rush to shops for probably 50+ years’, which saw the business post its biggest ever sales month in April.

Due to the demand, lead times for customers ‘frustratingly grew’ from eight weeks to 14+ by the year end.

“This is something that management are far from complacent about and in 2022 we are developing plans to better control such sales surges in the future,” the company added.

During the year, Sofas & Stuff opened three more stores in St Albans, St Edmonds and Salisbury, with three more openings planned for the year ahead.
