Sales grow again at department store group

Independent department store chain Bradbeers has reported a growth in turnover as total store sales continued to rise.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 28 January 2024, total store sales rose 6.3% to £26.9m from £25.3m in 2023, marking another year of consecutive growth. Concession sales stood at £3.4m, up from £3m.

When excluding concession sales and VAT on own trade sales, total turnover resulted at £19.7m, up 5.3% from £18.7m. Pre-tax profit resulted at £375,000, down from its profit of £2m compared to the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The Directors are very pleased with the trading results for the period bearing in mind the market conditions, inflationary pressures and the general economic outlook. There has been a strong recovery from the Covid affected years.

“During the year, the company opened its new department store in Salisbury, having owned the freehold for many years. The Directors are pleased with the initial trading performance.”
