Reduced demand impacts fitted furniture firm

Fitted furniture manufacturer Strachan has reported a decline in sales as profit fell into the red.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 June 2023, total sales fell 19.7% to £6.1m from £7.6m in 2022.

Pre-tax losses resulted at £102,000, down from a profit of £1m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its review, the company said: “The group continues to develop new product ranges to reflect market trends and satisfy customer expectations.

“During the year, the group has experienced a reduced demand for its products from customers seeking to improve their homes. The London showroom is scheduled to open in 2024 and this will help lead generation and sales.

“Challenges from the “cost of living squeeze” will continue into the future and will impact the company both internally by driving up costs and externally by suppressing consumer demand. The company has planned for difficult trading conditions and the director believes the company is in the best possible position to “weather” the external challenges being presented.”
