Record Teesside Golf Day raises £14k for industry charity

The annual Teesside Golf Day organised by independent furniture retailer Barker and Stonehouse has raised a huge £14,000 for industry charity The Furniture Makers’ Company.

The Teesside Golf Day took place on Wednesday 9 August at the Catterick Garrison Golf Club in North Yorkshire and was attended by 80 people – the largest attendance on record for the event.

The event started with a lunch in the clubhouse followed by a shotgun start to the tournament. Guests then later enjoyed an evening prize giving, dinner, presentations and a raffle.

The winners of the cups were: Paul Millard (1-9 Handicap), Paul Olivier (10-15 Handicap), Paul von der Heyde (16-28 Handicap), Michael Sheedy (Best Overall), Alan Scott (Veteran), Charlie Oulton, Stuart Hibbert, David Watts and John Bianchi (Best Team) and Adrian Jeff (Best Gross), and David Mitchell (Best Visitor). Dermot Hession won the ‘Nearest the Pin’ competition and Ian Cameron was awarded ‘Longest Drive’.

Paul von der Heyde, chairman of trustees at The Furniture Makers’ Company, attended the tournament and spoke to guests about the important work the charity continues to perform in supporting people from the trade who are experiencing financial hardship.

James Barker, managing director of Barker and Stonehouse, said: “Thank you to all the individuals and companies that attended and supported this year’s event, which was one of our most successful on record and I am delighted we raised £14,000 for our industry charity.”

Paul von der Heyde said: “Barker and Stonehouse is a long-time and much-valued supporter of our charity. We want to extend our thanks for yet again organising a very enjoyable fundraiser that was incredibly well attended. The money raised will go a long way to supporting more people in the UK furniture and furnishing industry who have fallen on hard times.”
