Office furniture maker completes warehouse expansion as sales rise

Office furniture manufacturer Dams has reported a growth in sales and profit as turnover jumped by more than £10m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 26 September 2021, total sales rose 25.4% to £50.3m from £40.1m in 2020.

UK sales grew 25.6% to £48.5m from £38.6m, while EU sales registered an increase of 14.2% to £1.6m from £1.4m. Sales outside the EU rose 22% to £105,000 from £86,000.

Gross profit increased from £8.4m to £11.3m, while pre-tax profit rose 71.4% to £4.8m from £2.8m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, Dams said the company continues to trade strongly despite industry wide challenges including Covid-19.

During the period, Dams invested within its infrastructure and acquired a 125,000sqft warehouse and distribution facility at Charley Wood Road, as well as beginning a project to extend the building by 60,000sqft to further increase operational capacity and support future growth.

This work has since been completed and became fully operational during April 2022.

Commenting on this expansion, Dams said: “The opening of this additional warehouse space is part of our long-term strategy to invest in our UK operations and grow the business, providing an increase in our stock holding capacity to better service the needs of our existing and new customers.

“The new warehouse gives us an additional 5,000 pallet locations, which will increase our storage capacity of finished goods by 48%, taking the total space for stock to over 185,000sqft. Plus, there is a new dedicated goods in area, with additional warehouse space to operate at higher levels.

“And we’ve even re-designed the car park and truck bays to make the yard flow better in regards to vehicle movements as we strive for continuous improvements.”
