Next generation of interior designers at Glasswells

Abbi Travers joined the soft furnishing department at furniture retailer Glasswells in May 2021 after completing the Fashion and Textiles course at West Suffolk College with a Distinction. With a love for Interior Design, she has chosen to further her studies, alongside her role as a sales adviser, by embarking on an Interior Design course.

Abbi explained: “It was my creative passion and flare for design from a young age that made me fall in love with interior design. From designing my own fabrics to upholstering my own furniture, I have always dreamed of becoming a designer and I am thankful to Glasswells for sponsoring me and for their support.”

Abbi’s course consists of 12 comprehensive modules and will last approximately a year, enabling her to progress her career at Glasswells. The first module of the course covers the basics of Interior Design, creating mood boards and learning how to observe, evaluate and form opinions of different design styles by analysing interior spaces. Abbi will develop her ‘designer’s eye’ and learn how to apply her new skills to create inspirational designs for home and work environments. She looks forward to sharing her newfound knowledge with customers in the Design Centre, coordinating fabrics and textures with furniture, flooring and furnishings to create a seamless finish.

At Glasswells, the Design Centre is an inspirational hub for interiors, which allows customers to see and feel each fabric and get expert advice. With thousands of fabrics to choose from for made-to-measure curtains and blinds, Glasswells can provide customers with their dream window dressings to match their style and budget, as well as offering free window measuring and a professional fitting service.

Abbi’s next level of training will further her ability to guide customers in the right direction when planning their new interiors within the successful soft furnishings department, which is the largest in Bury St Edmunds.

“Abbi’s enthusiasm and creativity is a great addition to the team,” Paul Glasswell, Managing Director, explained. “Our mission is to develop the careers of young people in retail with in-depth training. This provides them the invaluable knowledge and experience to progress within the company, as well as the industry, and we are pleased to be able to support Abbi through her course at the Interior Design Institute. By investing in our people, we are able to provide our customers with the very high standard of service that we are best-known for. Everybody at Glasswells wishes Abbi the best of luck and we look forward to seeing some of the new schemes she will be creating.”
