Mattress Online celebrates double recognition at Tech Awards

Online retailer of mattresses and beds, Mattress Online, has been recognised at the recent Northern Tech Awards.

The company was awarded 19th place in the Top 100 Fastest Growing Tech Companies in the North and 2nd in the Top 15 Fastest Growing Larger Companies.

The independent retailer has long had technology at the forefront of the business and was one of the first online sellers of mattresses back in 2003 when the company launched its bespoke e-Commerce platform from a bedroom.

During the pandemic, Rotherham-based Mattress Online saw turnover leap to £37.5m fuelled by stay-at-home spending on DIY and homeware. Growth was underpinned by the in-house Development team who continually innovate and found smarter ways to use technology to make the customer experience slicker.

Head of Digital, Michael Jervis said: “Mattress Online’s ability to be ahead of the game during the pandemic meant that we could continue to provide the smartest technology available to manage the huge increase in sales.

“In 2021 we processed 128,500 orders from 3.1 million web visitor. This could have been overwhelming had it not been for the systems we have in place, so it is fantastic to have been recognised for our performance in the tech realm.

“Placing at 19th for Tech Growth, and 2nd amongst the larger companies is a real departure for Mattress Online as the tech-forward organisation that we’ve always known it to be.”

Chief Executive Officer Steve Adams said: “Tech has always been at the very heart of what we do at Mattress Online. Harnessing that, and having some of the best digital talent in Yorkshire in our team, makes our placing in the lists really rewarding.”

Last year Mattress Online shared plans to acquire and roll out 10 brick-and-mortar stores over the next five years meaning its great prices, excellent customer experience and quick turnaround times will be available to all, whether that’s online or for customers looking for a more traditional, tactile experience in store.

Steve continued: “That expansion plan is now well underway and is bolstered by a Development team who are constantly improving our technology, both in terms of the customer facing platform and in streamlining internal processes. The future is looking positive, and I am, as ever, incredibly proud of my entire team.”
