Machinery manufacturer MattressTek expands facility

Experts in production line automation for the mattress, bed and component processing sectors, machinery manufacturer MattressTek have agreed with Lancashire landlord BE Boys to expand into the neighbouring unit at to their existing one, taking their footprint from 16,000sq ft to almost 22,000sq ft – an increase of more than 6,000sq ft.

This means that their factory, at Forest Mill in Water, Rossendale – currently the shopfloor used to accommodate the fabrication, build and electrical departments, along with an office, meeting room and break-out area – will allow the new unit to house a showroom for stand-out machines in its range, as well as those in development, ready for testing in anticipation of customer visits from the UK, US and across the globe.

Technical Director Shaun Peel said: “Our growth and demand, to cater to our international customers, through our export pursuits, has meant that we have kept our eyes out for a suitable space to physically expand.

“The fact that the unit next door at our current site has now become available is a great opportunity to further grow at our current location, following the addition of an office, canteen, stock store and mezzanine for our electrical team. We look forward to welcoming customers to our site from across America, Australia, Asia, Europe and here in the UK.”

Their original relocation to Rossendale came back in 2019 after they moved from Altham near Blackburn from a site in Accrington. 96% of their suppliers are based in Lancashire.

The brand recently won the Valley at Work and Made in Rossendale trophies at the Rossendale Business Awards, as well as Company of the Year (Under £20m) at the Insider North West International Trade Awards. They were a finalist in The Manufacturer MX Awards and are now in the running for a Red Rose Award in the county, along with numerous others.

With over 40 years worth of combined experience, made up of a mix of designers and engineers, MattressTek, has maintained its positioning as an award-winning provider of quality, robust and reliable production lines for the bed industry and beyond. 70% of its range is exported.

They are a multi-award winning brand, having won two local business awards and an International Trade award at The Lowry Hotel, along with being a finalist in the International Trade category of The Manufacturer MX Awards, for which they are attending a reception at the House of Lords on 15th March. They are also finalists in the Red Rose Awards, taking place in Blackpool on 9th March, for their Export growth and are waiting to hear about at least three others.

They have just adapted their Spring Unbaler, RollPack, Border cutting/notching machines and Roll Slitting machines, as well as various conveyors (including its Shuttle).
