Long-standing furniture retailer puts property up for sale

Independent furniture retailer House of Reeves has listed its store for sale with a guide price of around £2m.

The business, which is located on Church Street in Croydon, has appointed estate and auctioneer firm Barney Estates to list the property as both commercial premises and residential.

The ad states: “Barney Estates are extremely proud to bring to the market this unique site in the heart of West Croydon, famously known as Reeves Corner. The site spans approximately 14,000sqft and offers a wide variety of redevelopment possibilities, subject to the relevant planning consents.

“The existing tenants will remain in situ for up to six months after completion – business rates will continue to be paid.

“The CGI’s supplied would be suitable for the property on the basis of the revised planning permission, which after the recent appeal stated that the height of the proposed building was an issue, therefore, we are reliably informed it is buildable. The CGIs shown are 2 floors lower than what was initially applied for.”

If a sale is successful, which would see the business remain at the location for six months, this could suggest that it may relocate to a new site, although this has not been confirmed. View the listing here.

House of Reeves has been established since 1867 by founder Edwin Reeves and still operates from the same building today.
