JYSK eyes up former Carpetright store to expand Rotherham presence

Danish furniture retail chain JYSK has submitted plans to expand its presence in Rotherham.

According to planning documents, JYSK wants to relocate its existing store to a larger site, adjacent to its current location.

The move would see the retailer expand from an 8,600sqft unit to a 13,000sqft store, allowing the business to extend its product offering.

The store is located on The Foundry Retail Park where JYSK has been present since 2014. The move, which would see the retailer take over the former Carpetright store, is expected to expand its workforce from eight to 12.

Within the plans, a supporting statement said: “The purpose of the application is to allow JYSK to relocate from their existing store in the adjacent Unit 7, to enable them to expand their offer at the site.

“The current store at Unit 7 employs around 7-8 full time members of staff. It is anticipated that this will increase to approximately 12 within the new store.”
