Independent set to open Peterborough store

Independent furniture retailer The Furniture Warehouse has revealed plans to open a third store.

Situated in a former Beales store in Peterborough, The Furniture Warehouse has confirmed it has secured the location in the city’s Westgate.

The store is currently undergoing a refurbishment and once opened, it will create around four new jobs.

The new opening comes off the back of The Furniture Warehouse’s other new store in Market Deeping, which launched earlier this year in July and has been “incredibly well received”.

“We have two stores already in Corby and Market Deeping,” the company said. “The Market Deeping branch was opened in July and has been incredibly well received, which prompted us to look for other outlets in the area.”

The store forms part of buildings in Westgate earmarked for a £22m redevelopment to create 125 apartments and commercial units, which secured approval from Peterborough City Council in July. However, works are yet to get underway, allowing for the short-term retail opportunity.

“It’s a short-term, albeit open-ended agreement whilst the development progresses and we’re taking a large part of the ground floor.”

The Furniture Warehouse previously traded from a store at St James Retail Park in Northampton, although it is understood that this site has closed.
