Independent retailer sees profit treble as sales rise 60%

Independent flooring and bed retailer Wilsons Carpets has reported a growth in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2021, total sales rose 60.1% to £48.7m from £30.4m in 2020.

Gross profit increased from £11m to £24.8m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £6.5m, up 225% compared to its profit of £2m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company, which trades through 18 stores across South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, said that business ‘performed well’ during the period as it continued to make investments to boost growth.

One such investment was the acquisition of Generation Flooring Limited, a related business previously under common control, with all assets being transferred under the Wilsons Furnishers Limited company.

Wilsons added that trading for the year ahead has ‘so far been in line with expectations’.
