Independent retailer maintains sales of £40m despite decline

Independent flooring and bed retailer Wilsons Carpets has reported a decline in sales but saw turnover remain over £40m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2022, total sales fell 16% to £40.5m from £48.7m in 2021. It was still £10m ahead of revenues recorded in 2020, when sales stood at £30.4m over a two-year comparison.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £1.3m, down from £6.5m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company, which trades through 18 stores across South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, said that business performed ‘satisfactory’ during the period as it continued to make investments in new and existing retail outlets.

Wilsons added that trading for the year ahead has ‘so far been in line with expectations’.
