Independent retailer grows sales to almost £10m

Independent furniture retailer Cookes has reported a growth in sales as it celebrates its 75th anniversary year.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2022, total sales rose 48.4% to £9.8m from £6.6m in 2021.

Gross profit increased from £2.7m to £4.1m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £104,000, down from £442,000 recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said it delivered an ‘exceptional year’ despite the supply chain challenges facing the industry.

“The management team have embraced the significant ongoing investment in our showrooms and delivery infrastructure, allowing the business to continue to develop and improve the retail environment and the customer experience,” the business said.

“A strong order book is providing an excellent springboard; deliveries continue to be on forecast and cash generation remains solid.”
