Independent looks to convert part of store into a salon

Independent furniture, flooring and beds retailer Marshalls could see part of its Worthing store converted into a salon.

According to a planning application submitted to Adur District Council, the plans state a change of use to one part of its store on Tarring Road, converting a current carpet space into a salon, while an interlinking door would be blocked off.

The plans also include a change of signage to the front of this section of the property, with the new retail unit offering treatments such as eyebrow tinting, eyelash extensions and nail treatments.

Whaleback Planning and Design submitted the application on behalf of Norman Marshall, owner of the furnishing business and property.

The council is currently reviewing the application, with an expected decision date set for 25 July 2024.

Commenting on the proposal, Whaleback Planning and Design said: “The proposed change of use would make a positive contribution to the viability and diversity of the centre by supporting the financial viability of an existing business, enabling its reduction across four shopfronts to three, and delivering an entirely new business offering.”
