Independent confirms final closing date

Independent furniture retailer John Young Furnishings has confirmed its final day of trading following a closing down sale.

Situated at King’s Head Court in Keswick, the retailer, which announced the decision to close earlier this year due to retirement, will close on 11 May 2024.

The owner, John Young, said it has been an “extremely difficult decision” to call time on the business and enter retirement, bringing an end to over a century of trading within the family.

Since the announcement back in February, the business has been holding a closing down sale with products up to 30% off, while fulfilling all customer orders.

Commenting on the closure, John said: “It was an extremely difficult decision to make. My family has had a shop in Keswick for over a century and it is even harder when you have such a great team working with you in the business. I don’t have any heirs and I’d like to spend more time on other interests with my partner Clare, and now feels like the right time to close.”
