Independent carpet retailer opts out of town centre store

Independent carpet business CW Carpets and Flooring has confirmed it will close its shop and rebrand.

Situated on Darwen Street in Blackburn, the company plans to close the store, which has been open for over 70 years, to work from home due to rising rent costs.

The business said that footfall in the town centre is “abysmal”, which has not been helped by a lack of car park options.

With utilty bills, rates and rent all increasing, the company added that being in a town centre location is “not viable”.

Instead, the business will operate from the current owner’s home but reaffirmed it will still offer the “same service”.

Following the change, the company has also decided to rebrand itself as Counsell & Woan Mobile Floorcoverings, named after its original founders Raymond Counsell and Albert Woan, who established the business back in the mid-20th century.
