Discount flooring retailer J & W Carpets has reported a growth in turnover and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2022, total sales rose 15.8% to £13.9m from £12m in 2021.

Gross profit increased from £3.3m to £4.4m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £864,000, up from £856,000 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company, which operates over 20 stores throughout Scotland, said that despite the increase in turnover and gross margin, the higher margin was offset by increased overheads and the reduction in covid-19 support.

“Overheads continue to increase resulting in challenging trading conditions,” the business added.
