Homeware delivers nineth negative week as in store slows

Homeware sales declined on the high street again, marking a nineth negative week.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose by 7.63% for the week ending 12 June 2022.

Total Homeware LFLs fell by 2.56% this week, with in store sales rising by 0.47%. This slowed from the previous weeks 8.7% increase.

In store LFLs for homeware have been positive for three consecutive weeks, following six straight weeks of negative LFLs.

Total in-store LFL sales increased by +9.35% from a base of +35,783.67% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales increased by +3.20% from a base of +5.93% for the same week last year.  

Commenting on the results, the BDO said: “The weather in the UK this week saw a blend of balmy temperatures with sunshine with overcast and intermittent showers in northern parts of the country. The same week last year saw consistent sunshine and heat.

Total footfall climbed by +11.6% this week compared to the equivalent week last year.

High street footfall was up by +14.6%, while shopping centres saw footfall climb by +16.8%. In contrast, retail parks saw a decrease of -0.3% in footfall compared to the same week last year.
