UK searches of furniture during December delivered a slow month, while searches of sofa beds, sale promotions and location stood out.
According to Google search data analysed by Big Furniture Group, two days during December 2024 saw ‘furniture’ searches record an index score of 90 or more, while a score over 80 came in at five days. The highest searched date was 28 December with a full score 100.
Google index’s its search data to 100. This means where 100 is the maximum search interest for the term selected, it is the highest value and indicates a high internet search.
The results saw related searches of specific brand terms that included ‘IKEA’, up 110%, ‘ScS’, up 60%, and ‘recliner’, up 40%. Other popular terms included ‘next furniture sale’, up 130%, ‘furniture sales near me’, up 110%, and ‘housing units’, up 100%, as well as ‘furniture ombudsman’, up 90%. There were also other ‘sale’ related searches such as ‘furniture village sale’, ‘oakfurnitureland’ and ‘homebase garden furniture’.
Other search terms Big Furniture Group reviewed included mattresses, bedroom furniture, dining furniture, living room furniture, sofas, carpets and flooring.
Mattresses
Mattress searches recorded three peak dates with an index score value of 90 or more. The highest searched date was 28 December with a full score of 100. Related brand searches saw Mattressman – up 250%, Simba, Tempur, Hypnos, Mattress Online, Furniture Village, Silentnight and Millbrook all perform well. The term ‘single mattress sale’ saw searches rise 50%, while ‘mattress sales’ searches increased 50%, ‘mattress stores near me’ searches rose 50% and ‘small double mattress protector’ saw an increase of 60%. Meanwhile, ‘sofa bed’ searches jumped 550%.
Bedroom furniture
Bedroom furniture searches recorded two days of peak activity with an index value over 90. The highest searched dates were 28 and 29 December with a full score of 100. Popular brand searches included Wren, JYSK, IKEA, Homebase, Oak Furnitureland and The Range. The term ‘solid wood bedroom furniture’ rose 60%, while ‘white bedroom furniture set’ searches were up 50% and ‘kids bedroom furniture sets’ was up 50%. The term ‘bedroom furniture sale’, rose 60%.
Dining furniture
Dining furniture searches recorded four days of peak activity with an index value over 90. The most searched days were 28 and 29 December, which scored a full 100. Popular brand searches included Choice Furniture Superstore, Next, BoConcept, Dunelm, Furniture And Choice, ScS and Sterling Furniture. The terms ‘table’, ‘dining table’ and ‘dining chair’ were all breakout searches.
Living room furniture
Living room furniture saw three peak days during the month. The most searched day was 15 December that scored the full 100 score. Popular brand related searches included Furniture Village, Oak Furnitureland and DFS. The terms ‘sofa bed’, ‘TV stand’, ‘sofa tables’, ‘curtains’ and ‘cabinetry’ were all breakout searches.
Sofas
Sofa searches saw four peak dates, with the highest score of 100 recorded on 29 December. Popular related brand searches included Next, Fishpools, Barker and Stonehouse, ScS and DFS. Search terms included ‘L Shape sofa’, up 550%, ‘corner sofa’, up 190% and ‘compressed sofa’, up by 400%. Other terms related to sales, such as ‘sofa sales near me’, up 400%, ‘next sofa sale’, up 160%, ‘scs sofa sale’, up 100% and ‘dfs sale’ – up 70%.
Flooring & Carpets
Flooring searches saw two days scoring over 90, with the highest date being 29 December, scoring the full 100. Carpet searches saw five days scoring over 90, with the highest date on 28 December scoring the full 100. Popular brand searches included Wickes, Homebase, United Carpets and Beds (up by over 1,000%), Tapi Carpets and Amtico. Popular search terms included ‘flooring companies near me’, up 90%, ‘online carpets’, up 80%, ‘carpet sales’, up 70%, and ‘Homebase laminate flooring’, up 40%.
