Furniture retailer issues product recall on fire risk sofas

Furniture retailer Oak Furniture Superstore has issued a product recall on over 100 Chinese sofas due to a fire risk.

The product recall affects 161 CAZ upholstered sofas and chairs with the products presenting a high risk of fire as the filling and covers easily ignite when exposed to a naked flame.

In a notice from the Office for Product Safety and Standards, it said: “The product has been identified as presenting a high risk of fire as the foam and covers fail to meet the requirements of the relevant standard BS5852. If the cover or filling of the sofa or chair came into contact with a naked flame, it would catch fire and continue to flame.

“The product does not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988.

“The product has been recalled from end users. Consumers who have purchased affected products will be contacted by the distributor directly with further details.

“Information on the recall and how you can register your affected product can also be accessed on the following webpage: https://www.oakfurnituresuperstore.co.uk/recall.”
