Furniture maker grows sales and returns to profit

Kitchens, bedrooms and bathroom furniture manufacturer JT Ellis has reported a growth in sales and a return to profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 1 July 2023, total sales rose 67.2% to £30.1m from £18m in 2022.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £285,000, up from a loss of £2.2m recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said gross margin increased to 27% from 24% following some “stabilisation” in input prices during the period.

“The company maintained a tight control over overheads which decreased to 23% of turnover (down from 37%), which is a reflection of the post lockdown environment where the company retained certain costs unsupported by government measures,” the business added.
