Furniture imports rise in April 2024 as exports grow again

Furniture imports during April 2024 increased on the same month last year while exports from the UK also showed another month of growth.

According to the latest UK trade data, analysed by Big Furniture Group, total imports of furniture into Britain valued £676.3m in April 2024, up 8.54% from £623m against the same month the previous year.

Imports from the EU registered an increase of 6.6% to £331.3m from £310.8m. Poland saw an increase of 26.8% and represented £68.3m, while Italy also rose 3.2% to £64.6m, alongside Germany, up 4.5% to £52m.

As for outside the EU, total imports rose 10.4% to a value of £344.9m from £312.2m. Chinese imports were up 7.3% to £226.3m, while Vietnam was also up by 21% to £22.9m. Imports from Morocco increased 45% to £11.1m, while the USA rose 5.3% to £19.5m.

Moving to exports, the total value of UK furniture leaving the country rose 11.85% to £204.5m from £182.8m year-on-year. In Europe, exports rose 21.9% to £106m from £86.9m, with exports to Ireland rising 3.3% to a value of £21.4m. Exports to France saw an increase of 59% to £33.6m.

Outside the EU saw exports increased 2.7% to £98.5m from £95.9m. Exports to China were down 8% to £2.2m, while UAE rose of 97% to £9.6m. Exports to the USA rose 17% to £51.6m.
