Flooring retail and wholesale group post mixed sales

Flooring wholesaler Kellars has reported a growth in sales as turnover jumped by almost £10m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 July 2023, total sales rose 30.7% to £41.1m from £31.4m in 2022.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £272,000, up from £1,748 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The growth in sales has been achieved this year through investment into more presence in the marker place. This investment has been into both sales team members long with stands, sampling and new product ranges.”

Meanwhile, flooring retailer Flooring Superstore reported a decline in sales over the same period, down by 5.9% to £51.8m from £55m in 2022.

Pre-tax losses resulted at £3.2m, narrowing from a loss of £6.4m recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The company completed its plan to restructure and return to profitability during year. The Northampton warehouse was disposed of in November 2022 for a consideration of £2.6m as part of this plan.

“The business therefore returned to cash generation and positive EBITDA in the second half of the year, although a loss for the year overall was recorded due to the poor performance in the first half.”

Both Kellars and Flooring Superstore are part of the same group, owned by J Maguire Holdings Limited.
