Final Habitat stores expected to close next month

Supermarket group Sainsbury’s has revealed a potential closing date for the three remaining Habitat furniture and interiors stores.

Back in March this year, Sainsbury’s confirmed the launch of a new digital showroom to help showcase Habitat products for customers who are increasingly shopping online.

The three remaining Habitat showrooms in Brighton, Leeds and Westfield, London, were then earmarked for closure at some point this year.

It is now understood that they will close on 1 July with each store currently being vacated. Previously, Sainsbury’s also added that it would try to relocate impacted Habitat staff.

“Sainsbury’s is currently talking to the small number of Habitat showroom colleagues about their options and will be supporting them alongside others affected by the announcement, again including exploring opportunities for redeployment where possible,” the supermarket said in March.

“Habitat will continue to play a key part in Sainsbury’s strategy and it will continue to invest in the brand.”
