Department store group experiences surge in furniture orders

Independent department store chain Bradbeers has reported a growth in turnover as overall store sales surpassed £20m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 January 2022, total sales rose 45.7% to £20.4m from £14m in 2021. Concession sales stood at £2.3m, up from £1.3m.

When excluding concession sales and VAT on own trade sales, total turnover resulted at £15.3m, up 44.3% from £10.6m.

Gross profit increased from £4.9m to £7.4m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £0.8m, remaining consistent on the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that trading was strong after the initial lockdown, particularly in furniture stores where orders were 25% up year-on-year, which has continued after the subsequent lockdowns.
