Creditors of 28 furniture businesses owed over £4m

In the latest Insolvency Digest, creditors of 28 furnishing businesses entering liquidation or administration are expected to suffer a combined shortfall of £4.4m.

Philip Nunney and Joanne Hammond, both of Begbies Traynor (SY) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen furniture manufacturer Dave Stone Design (Chesterfield) Ltd on 1 August 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £55,000, with the majority being owed to NatWest Bank at £48,000. The HMRC is owed £7,500. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £67,000.

Peter Wastell and William Turner, both of Verulam Advisory, were appointed as joint liquidators of bespoke furniture and kitchens manufacturer Tarrant Valley Interiors Ltd on 28 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor the HMRC £2,800, which is expected to be repaid in full from realised assets valuing £6,600. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £26,000, with NatWest Bank being owed £22,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £22,000.

C H I Moore, of K J Watkin & Co, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Wildwood Trading Limited, trading as World of Furniture, on 26 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £2,800, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £8,600. The HMRC is owed £4,000, which is also expected to be repaid in full. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £132,000, with £68,000 owed to NatWest Bank. Consumer claims totalled £10,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £130,000.

Rikki Burton, of Anderson Brookes Insolvency Practitioners Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture maker Bowen Troscan Limited on 19 July 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £72,000, which included £40,000 owed to the HMRC and £30,000 owed to Metro Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £69,000.

Rosalind Hilton of Adcroft Hilton Limited, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer Pat Carpets (Worsley) Limited on 3 August 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £2,500, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £7,600. The HMRC is owed £23,500, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £57,000, with £35,000 owed to Lloyds Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £75,000.

Rikki Burton, of Anderson Brookes Insolvency Practitioners Limited, was appointed as liquidator of kitchen furniture business Kuchen Kitchens Ltd on 31 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor the HMRC £45,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £77,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £149,000.

James Kaye and Nick Morgan, both of NTF Corporate Solutions Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of office furniture manufacturer JSS Office Interiors Limited on 28 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £6,000, while the HMRC is owed £336,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £141,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £483,000.

Steven Ross and Allan Kelly, both of FRP Advisory Trading Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture repair business Copperleaf Design Ltd on 1 August 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £2,000, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £12,000. The HMRC is owed £22,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £68,000, with a further £14,000 owed to employees. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £79,000.

Phil Clark and Dave Clark, both of Clark Business Recovery Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture business Bronte Interiors LLP on 24 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor HMRC claims £2,400, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £3,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £195,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £194,000.

Amie Johnson and Yiannis Koumettou, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of outdoor furniture manufacturer Staffordshire Garden Furniture Limited on 18 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor HMRC claims £307,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £41,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £349,000.

Andrew Ryder, of JT Maxwell Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer Charles Geddes Carpets Limited on 28 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor HMRC claims £27,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £128,000, with Barclays Bank owed £44,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £155,000.

Gary Thompson and Michael Kiely, both of Quantuma Advisory Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Sofa & More Ltd on 26 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor HMRC claims £437,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £196,000, with a further £71,000 owed to the HMRC and £125,000 owed to NatWest Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £628,000.

Ian Royle, of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Firdos Upholstery Limited on 20 July 2023. The business owed preferential creditor HMRC claims £60,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £37,000, owed to NatWest Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £97,000.

Simon Barriball and Helen Whitehouse, both of Company Liquidations Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen furniture retailer German Kitchen Trading Co Ltd, trading as German Kitchen Company, on 6 July 2023. Alan Coleman and Marco Piacquadio, both of FTS Recovery Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture and homewares retailer LA Maison Retail Limited, trading as La Maison, on 1 August 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £2,300, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £3,300. The HMRC is owed £3,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £140,000, with Santander Bank owed around £52,000. Creditors are set to suffer a shortfall of £142,000.

Andrew Hook and Julie Palmer, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Harpenden Fitted Interiors Limited on 10 August 2023. The business owed preferential creditor HMRC claims £74,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £31,000, with a further £13,000 owed the HMRC. Creditors are set to suffer a shortfall of £105,000.

The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £8,300, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £21,100. The HMRC is owed £52,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £297,000, with a further £83,000 owed to employees and £96,000 owed to Funding Circle. Creditors are set to suffer a shortfall of £337,000.

Brendan Hogan, of Cromwell & Co Insolvency Practitioners, was appointed as liquidator of handmade furniture business Century Bespoke Interiors Ltd on 17 August 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £5,400, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £42,000, with Barclays Bank owed around £20,000. Creditors are set to suffer a shortfall of £47,000.

Jamie Playford, of Leading, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer Fine Edge Furniture Ltd on 16 August 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors a total of £62,000, with NatWest Bank owed around £15,000 and a director’s loan owed £37,000. Creditors are set to suffer a shortfall of the entire amount.

Andrew David Haslam and Antonya Allison, both of FRP Advisory Trading Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Creative Woodwork Limited on 16 August 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £7,500, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £38,000. The HMRC is owed £148,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £126,000, with Barclays Bank owed around £33,000. Creditors are set to suffer a shortfall of £269,000.

Lee De’ath and Tom Gardiner, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of retailer Curtain Corner Interiors Limited on 16 August 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £12,000, with Santander Bank owed the same figure. Creditors are set to suffer a shortfall of £10,000.

Steven Currie, of Currie Young Limited, was appointed as liquidator of design, build and repair of upholstered furniture business Gary Andrews Upholstery Ltd on 14 August 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £17,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £17,000, which included a director’s loan of £10,000. Creditors are set to suffer a shortfall of £28,000.
