Creditors of 20 furniture businesses owed over £4m

In the latest Insolvency Digest, creditors of 20 furnishing businesses entering liquidation or administration are expected to suffer a combined shortfall of £4.6m.

John Carpenter and Christopher Barrett, both of Dow Schofield Watts Business Recovery LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen furniture manufacturer Durr Furniture Ltd on 26 April 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £110,600, as well as employee claims totalling £4,600, which are expected to be repaid from realised assets of £44,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £805,000, with further employee claims standing at £140,000. Funding Circle is owed £134,000, while Nucleus Cashflow Finance is owed £155,000. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £776,000.

Matthew Russell and Gareth Lewis, both of Lewis Business Recovery & Insolvency, were appointed as joint liquidators of mattress business Sleep Maker Ltd on 26 April 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £19,000, with the majority expected to be repaid from realised assets of £12,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £224,500, with You Lend owed £125,000 and Barclays Bank owed £42,000. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £231,000.

Natalie Hughes, of Simply Corporate Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer The Sona Furniture Group Limited on 3 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £28,800, as well as employee claims totalling £4,400. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £79,000, with creditors expected to suffer a shortfall of £111,000.

Andrew Turpin, of Poppleton & Appleby, and Gareth Prince, of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen furniture firm The Real Kitchen Company Ltd on 2 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £130,000, as well as employee claims totalling £27,000, with the latter expected to be repaid some of the debt from realised assets of £23,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £431,000, which included further employee claims of more than £60,000, as well as £106,000 owed to a business recovery loan. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £565,000.

Phil Clark and Dave Clark, both of Clark Business Recovery Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer The Ministry of Interiors Ltd on 2 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £41,000, as well as employee claims totalling £5,000, with the latter expected to be repaid from realised assets of £9,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £158,000, which included further employee claims of more than £35,000, as well as £47,000 owed to Barclays Bank. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £194,000.

Gareth Graham, of Restart BTi, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Alliwar Limited on 5 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £6,800, which is expected to receive some distribution from realised assets of £4,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £80,000, which included £16,000 owed to HSBC Bank and £64,000 owed as director’s loan. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £83,000.

Steve Kenny and Richard Cole, both of KBL Advisory Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture manufacturing business Little Arrivals Limited on 11 May 2023. The business owed one employee a sum of £800 as a preferential creditor, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £11,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £125,000, which included £40,000 owed to HSBC Bank. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £114,000.

Edward Avery-Gee and Daniel Richardson, both of CG&Co, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture manufacturer Let Us Make Sofas Ltd on 4 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £1,300, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £261,000, which included £33,000 owed to HSBC Bank and £86,000 owed as director’s loan. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £263,000.

Mark Botwood, of Muras Baker Jones Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of joinery firm SM Fitted Furniture Limited, trading as Daniel James Interiors, on 18 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £3,500, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £32,000. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £29,000.

Edward Avery-Gee and Daniel Richardson, both of CG&Co, were appointed as joint liquidators of bespoke furniture retailer Tyson Brands Limited on 3 May 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £223,000, which included £44,000 owed to Barclay’s Bank. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £217,000.

Malcolm Fergusson, of Fergusson & Co Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer RS Cabinet Maker Limited on 17 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £32,900, while employee claims totalled £11,400. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £83,000. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £113,000.

Stephen Clancy and Steven Muncaster, both of Kroll Advisory Ltd, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture wholesaler 2P2M Limited on 2 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £3,600, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £129,000, with the majority of £126,000 being owed to Addspace Furniture. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £115,000.

Christopher Wood and Steven Hodgson, both of Clough Corporate Solutions Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen furniture maker Heseltines Skipton Limited on 3 May 2023. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £141,000.

J N Bleazard, of XL Business Solutions, was appointed as liquidator of furniture polishing business Bowness Furniture Polishers Limited on 28 April 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £9,600, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £74,000, which included £45,000 owed to Lloyds Bank. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £83,000.

Richard Hunt, of SFP, was appointed as liquidator of online children’s furniture retailer Gorgeous Little Things for Children Ltd on 10 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £10,700, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £95,000, which included £55,000 owed to Santander Bank. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £106,000.

Chris Newell and Jo Leach, both of Quantuma Advisory Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture manufacturing business Toprail Limited on 12 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditors, the HMRC, £1,400, and employee claims of £5,000, which are expected to be repaid from realised assets of £9,500. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £386,000, which included a further £55,000 owed to employees, as well as £228,000 owed as a director’s loan. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £683,000.

Dominik Thiel-Czerwinke and Jamie Taylor, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of flooring business Butchers Carpets Ltd on 18 May 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £43,000, which included £30,000 owed to HSBC Bank. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £44,000.

P R Booth, of Booth & Co, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer DFS Limited, trading as The Furniture Centre, on 19 May 2023. The business owed preferential creditors, the HMRC, £17,800, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £512,000, which included £93,000 owed to The Redundancy Service, as well as £380,000 owed to Killock Property Developments. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £530,000.
