Creditors of 19 furnishing businesses owed over £5m

In the latest Insolvency Digest, creditors of 19 furnishing businesses entering liquidation or administration are expected to suffer a combined shortfall of £5.4m.

Richard Hunt, of SFP Restructuring Limited, was appointed as liquidator of mattress manufacturer Simple Beds Ltd on 5 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £80,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £72,000, with £40,000 owed to Santander Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £152,000.

Simon Weir, of DSi Business Recovery, was appointed as liquidator of online furniture retailer Universal Beds Ltd on 2 October 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £210,000, with £134,000 owed to Comfy Deluxe Ltd. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of the entire amount.

The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £30,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £95,000, with £26,000 owed to LFS. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £125,000.

Roderick Butcher, of Butcher Woods, was appointed as liquidator of upholstery business P.C. Upholstery Limited on 3 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £3,000, while the HMRC is owed £35,000, with the majority to be repaid from realised assets valuing £26,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £115,000, with a further £80,000 owed to employees. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £127,000.

Kevin McLeod and Christopher Andersen, both of AABRS Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furnishings business Country Blinds Suffolk Ltd on 10 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £2,500, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £10,000, which is owed to NatWest Bank as a Bounce Back Loan. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £12,500.

Thomas Guthrie and Lauren Auburn, both of BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency, were appointed as joint liquidators of furnishings retailer Oasis Pools & Spas Ltd on 5 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £2,500, and employee claims of £1,150, which are expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £9,600. Unsecured creditor claims totalled £59,000, with £32,500 owed to Barclays Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £53,000.

Matthew Fox, of Beacon LIP Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer Traepak Ltd, trading as FUZL Studio, on 5 October 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £93,000, with £23,000 owed to NatWest Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £88,000.

J N Bleazard, of XL Business Solutions Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer S L Furniture Limited on 21 September 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £3,600, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £19,000, with the majority of £12,000 owed to Lloyds Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £22,800.

Gary Birchall and Jane Hardy, both of Focus Insolvency Group, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Charmwood Furniture Limited on 17 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £34,300, and employee claims of £3,400, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £59,000, with £34,000 owed to the Royal Bank of Scotland. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £96,000.

Maxine Reid-Roberts and Sean Bucknall, both of Quantuma Advisory Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture wholesaler Sussex Furnishers Limited on 18 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £3,800, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £16,700, while the HMRC is owed £7,600 and is also expected to be repaid in full. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £171,000, with £53,000 owed to HSBC Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £166,000.

Timothy Corfield, of Griffin & King, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer C&C Carpets Limited on 19 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £7,600, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £10,000, while the HMRC is owed £419,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £197,000, with £150,000 owed to a director’s loan. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £613,000.

Martin Halligan, of Live Recoveries Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture business Hartleys Furniture Limited on 12 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £10,100, while the HMRC is owed £22,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £191,000, with a further £83,000 owed to employees and £28,000 owed to HSBC Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £224,000.

Bai Cham and Craig Povey, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen furniture manufacturer Christopher Peters Kitchens & Interiors Limited on 17 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £37,000, which is expected to be repaid in part from realised assets valuing £19,000, while the HMRC is owed £188,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £1.1m, with £412,000 owed to consumers and £102,000 owed to Funding Circle. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £1.4m.

Craig Ridgley, of Mercian Advisory Limited, and Adam Ramsey and Adam Harris, both of Mazars, were appointed as joint liquidators of carpet business Horne Brothers Carpets Limited on 17 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £10,000, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £72,000. Unsecured creditor claims totalled £211,000, with a £33,000 owed to the HMRC and £175,000 owed to Funding Circle. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £148,000.

Julie Palmer and Andrew Hook, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Harrison Smith Interiors Limited on 16 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor employee claims £5,600, while the HMRC is owed £174,700. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £418,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £638,000.

Mark Reynolds, of Valentine & Co, was appointed as liquidator of online furniture retailer India Jane (London) Limited, India Jane (Holdings) Ltd and Mayfair Marketing Retail Limited, trading as India Jane, on the 23 October, 24 October and 25 October 2023 respectively. It is expected that creditors will suffer a combined shortfall from all three companies of £1.1m.

Rikki Burton, of Anderson Brookes Insolvency Practitioners Limited, was appointed as liquidator of online furniture retailer Woodhouse Furniture Ltd on 24 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £88,100, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £67,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £149,000.

Simon Weir, of DSi Business Recovery, was appointed as liquidator of carpet business JP Carpets Limited on 17 October 2023. The business owed preferential creditor, the HMRC, £13,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £49,000, with £30,000 owed to NatWest Bank. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £61,000.

Mustafa Abdulali and Neil Dingley, both of Moore Recovery Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer E And E Furniture Stores (Cheadle) Limited on 23 October 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors £66,000, with £22,000 owed to the National Insurance Fund. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £60,000.
