Chinese sofas and chairs recalled due to high fire risk

Sofas and chairs sold under the TS brand by furniture business Mark Harris Furniture have been recalled due to a high fire risk.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued the recall from Mark Harris Furniture Ltd, which is in administration, after it found that the TS-branded upholstered sofas and chairs – that originate from China – presents a high risk of fire as the foam and covers fail to meet the flammability requirements of the relevant standard.

A statement said: “The product has been identified as presenting a high risk of fire as the foam and covers fail to meet the requirements of the relevant standard BS5852. If the cover or filling of the sofa or chair came into contact with a naked flame, it would catch fire and continue to flame.

“The product does not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. The product is subject to a recall. As the company is in administration, consumers who have affected products will be contacted by the administrator with further details.”
