Carpet retailer store could be converted into gym

The future of one of Carpetright’s stores is under question after a planning document has emerged that could see it replaced with a gym.

According to a planning application, submitted by TDH Estates on behalf Switha Ltd to South Holland District Council, it aims to convert the current Carpetright store on Spalding’s Westlode Avenue into a 24-hour gym facility.

A letter states: “The requisite forms, plans and supporting documents relate to an application for a certificate of lawful proposed use of unit 2 (formerly Carpetright) as a gym with unrestricted trading hours, i.e., no restriction on 24 hour opening if desired by the gym operator.”

Carpetright is still trading from the premises and it is not yet understood if the plans state the entire property or part of it.
