Long-established independent carpet retailer Mitchells Carpets has announced that its founders have sadly passed away.
William, known as Bill, and Rose Mitchell founded the company back in 1963 and grew the business to what it is today, still trading out its Dartford high street store.
Their daughter, also named Rose, along with her husband Jim, took over the company many years ago following the retirement of the couple, although Bill worked right up to the Covid pandemic at the age of 80 years old.
In a tribute to her parents, Rose said: “My mum Rose Mitchell passed away gracefully and peacefully. She has been the back bone behind my dad since Mitchells Carpets was established in 1963. She will be truly missed by so many.
“My dad passed away at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, I take comfort knowing that he has joined my mum only five weeks later but they are together again. We will have Mitchells above the door in honour of my dad for many more years to come.
“I’m so proud to think my parents established it in 1963 and for the first few years they worked from vans doing carpets sales in Halls in South East London selling carpet squares because there was no fitted carpet those days. Their hard work, determination and drive has made Mitchells Carpets what it is today.
“To think that my dad at 80 years of age worked until covid hit. PROUD is an understatement. We have a brilliant team of staff in place and my husband Jim, the manager, and my son Sammy will be taking the shop forward to the next generation. We will be in this beautiful listed building in Dartford town centre for many years to come serving the community with all there flooring needs. R.I.P Rose and Bill Mitchell.

Rose Mitchell died on 30 June 2022. William – Bill – Mitchell died on 3 August 2022.
