Carpet retailer closes Spalding store

National carpet and flooring retailer Carpetright has closed its store in Spalding to make way for a gym.

The retailer closed for the final time at Westlode Avenue on Saturday 17 February 2024 after signs emerged in the shop windows ahead of closing.

Back in September 2023, the future of the store went under question after a planning document was submitted that could see it replaced with a 24-hour gym. This was approved the following month.

According to the planning application, submitted by TDH Estates on behalf Switha Ltd to South Holland District Council, it aims to convert the current Carpetright store on Spalding’s Westlode Avenue into a 24-hour gym facility.

A letter states: “The requisite forms, plans and supporting documents relate to an application for a certificate of lawful proposed use of unit 2 (formerly Carpetright) as a gym with unrestricted trading hours, i.e., no restriction on 24 hour opening if desired by the gym operator.”
