Carpet maker sees sales double as exports rise

Carpet manufacturer Shaw Contract has reported a growth in sales as turnover more than doubled.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2021, total sales rose 106% to £30.3m from £14.7m in 2020.

UK sales were up 58% to £20.9m from £13.2m, while rest of the world sales rose 571% to £9.4m from £1.4m.

Gross profit increased from a loss of £816,000 to a profit of £2.4m, while pre-tax losses resulted at £1m, widening from a loss of £726,000 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said it invested in capital equipment at the plant in Sanquhar, Scotland, which has enabled the business to be highly adaptable to customer’s needs.

The company added that it has faced “very steep” increases in costs for raw materials, transport and energy prices.
